Allergy awesome

We had a couple dine the other day that rarely dines out but wanted at the protest of her husband join us for dinner. She has several allergies and doesn’t risk the chance for human error to potentially harm her. Jenny took all necessary precautions and made lots of great suggestions and modifications and wow’d them with our ability to be so accommodating. We bought their dinner to offer them the chance to come back and make us a regular occasion to get out and enjoy each other’s company and let us take care of them more often. They were delighted and promise to join us again

Random on the Terrace

I was getting ready to leave on Sunday afternoon last week and realized I had not accomplished my RAK for the week. I grabbed a GC from the safe and walked over to a random table, Mother and daughter dining on the patio -sometimes those are the best kind. They were out spending the day with each other as mom was looking for some company. Turns out her husband is a lineman and off helping victims of the hurricane! She was so touched and it brought a complete shock of joy to her.

Happy Birthday Mom

I have a small group of ladies that come to Derry every other week. This week, it was one of the ladies birthday. Ellen’s daughter called in the morning, and explained that she would like to buy her Mother’s dinner. I had not done my RAK for the week, and I thought that it was very thoughtful for Ellen’s daughter Christine to call and buy her mom lunch. I explained to Christine how nice I thought it was for her to hook Mom up, and decided to RAK the table. Needless to say, Ellen and the table were blown away, and Christine was as well.

Tonight in Derry, one of my servers Jamie let me know that she had a couple, dining with their son that were celebrating 56 years of marriage. Needless to say, that is pretty impressive. I took up their tab for them, and they were blown away. they could not thank us enough for the kindness shown.

Bringing Hope

I met an extraordinary young man tonight. Our newest employee asked me to visit a table to help inform a guest about our Payback$ program. I visited the table of a mother and son, explained the program and shared the Mystery 50 promotion on Facebook since mom had ordered fish and chips. They asked me to return to the table so they could tell me what a wonderful experience they had tonight. Mom and son said Scott didn’t just wait on their table but “took care” of them. They were wrapping up a very long day at Dartmouth Hitchcock and briefly shared they were transferring from Boston Hospitals and were hopeful for the future. I asked her to sit tight, and that I had something for her. I returned with a $50 GC and a RAK GC since she had already cashed out. I told her I wanted to add to the already positive experience. I wanted them to visit us again next time they had a long day and wanted to be taken care of. We properly introduced ourselves and she then shared enough of her sons’ story to know I made an impact. He has had a pediatric neurologist and a team of other doctors since he was very young due to pregnancy complications. Ten year old Shawn was the most impressive, outgoing little boy, who was for the first time meeting his new team of specialists today. He shared it was the longest bunch of check ups he’s ever had. Today was a very special day because they were filled with so much hope after seeing each doctor. Shawn and Patricia felt so overwhelmed and left feeling like they couldn’t express enough gratitude. He was so excited to know he could  pay the kindness forward and give someone his own RAK.

New Smile!

One of our servers was recently offered the opportunity to fix her smile. She was nominated by one of the bar regulars and she was selected! She always commented on my smile and how she wish she had one she was proud of. A few weeks ago, she got her smile! She is such a wonderful friend, employee and person. Last night the woman who did nominated her and did the work was at the bar. She had already cashed out by the time I was able to present her with the RAK so I gave her a $100 GC and the RAK to pay it forward even though she has clearly already done that. This woman dramatically changed the life of one of our servers and I am just amazed at her generosity!

Smiles in Time of Loss

Tonight we had a family that visits us often come in to dine. They were in the night before and left their credit card. Oddly enough so had his brother. When I went over to talk to them I immediately recognized them. He didn’t realize his brother had left his card and lives in Fremont. They were in the night before after attending their father’s funeral and added he and his brother must have not been in their right mind. I expressed my condolences and let them enjoy their dinner. Once they were finished I went over to help pack up their meals and shared that in a time of sadness I wanted to put a smile on their face and took care of their meal. We shared a hug and tears and they were incredibly grateful for the gesture of kindness and love.

Kindness at it’s best

Today we witnessed a true moment of kindness in Derry. We have two gentlemen who frequent our restaurant. They live in an assisted environment. Most people turn their nose up to them as they do not wash, wear dirty clothes and are what  most people would consider lower class of society. They often come in with change simply for a bowl of chili or a burger and get nothing else often only one eating at a time and do not tip. I can imagine how they are often treated and it is sad, but today was a different story. Today a kind woman wanted to do something nice for them. Something they don’t often receive I am sure. She bought their lunch anonymously. In return I bought hers’. She held my hand with tears in her eyes at her surprise to our kindness and what a great company we are for having such a great program. She just felt like it was the right thing to do. 🙂

Just Married

Tonight Christie’s table told her their love story. It started in November 2005 when they met at a store she owned here in Derry. They had their first date at table 6 in the lounge and remembered exactly what they drank and ate that day. Well this past weekend they got married and they came in to sit at table 6 again to celebrate! They aren’t going on a honeymoon until next year so this was their mini celebration to start off their “staycation.” They were absolutely floored to receive a gift certificate for their next visit and to pay it forward!

First time out

this is from a few days ago….. My mother has a dear friend battling kidney cancer. She has been going through many rounds of chemotherapy and my parents took her out for the first time to TBones. She has been very ill and weak and self conscious about losing her hair but the other day she felt strong enough to go out in public and chose our establishment. At the end of the meal i came over and said “in honor of your first day out i would like to pay for your dinner and give you a gift certificate for the next time you feel well enough to come out again”. In tears we parted and she’s been talking about it ever since to all she speaks with.
